Looking for a new place to grab takeout or devour a sweet treat? Capitol Riverfront has you covered. The neighborhood has recently welcomed several culinary newcomers—perhaps you’ve already heard about one that’s generating a lot of buzz: La Famosa. It’s a globally inspired restaurant helmed by Chef Joancarlo, who spent his early years cooking alongside his grandmother in Puerto Rico. Chef Joancarlo and his team craft everything from chuleta kan-kan to mofongo, just as he did growing up.
More interested in the sweet side of the neighborhood? Mah Ze Dahr Bakery only opened recently, but its reputation preceded it. Last month, Eater D.C. celebrated its arrival with a piece about the signature vanilla brioche doughnuts, which were previously only available in NYC. While La Famosa is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., note that Ma Ze Dahr is only open Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You’re invited to grab takeout at either spot, or sit down inside or outside (both are operating at limited capacities).
